THE ONLY | The Only Seafoods was located at 20 West Hastings in downtown Vancouver. Unfortunately the building was demolished in 2021. I remember going to the Only in the mid 1980’s and have always loved the metal & neon sign.
EXOTIC WORLD | Located at 3561 Main Street in Vancouver, Exotic World Museum housed an eclectic collection of artifacts collected by a couple who travelled the world. Today it’s the location of Neptoon Records, Vancouver’s oldest independent record store.
GRANVILLE ISLAND HOTEL | The is the back of the Granville Island Hotel. I liked the 1980’s stucco colour and the strong shadow that's cast on the wooden window shutter.
FRANK’S LODGE | Frank’s Lodge Barbershop was located at 15th and Granville in Vancouver. The building is still there but has been redeveloped. The business was relocated to its current location at 11th and Granville.
SEYMOUR BILLIARDS | Seymour Billiards was located at 999 Seymour at Nelson Street in downtown Vancouver. It featured the stand-out dimensional, neon signage. Opened in 1963 it has since been demolished and is now the site of the 999 Seymour condo tower.
GULF OF GEORGIA CANNERY, STEVESTON | Growing up in the Steveston area I have always loved the Gulf of Georgia Cannery buildings. Built in the late 1890’s it is now a National Historic site. My painting shows the weathered, pre-restoration version of the building.
